This past week in Berks athletics: February 15-21

The men's and women's basketball programs wrapped up the regular season and saw some playoff action over the years during the week of February 15 through 21. Baseball and men's tennis also had action in this time frame. Men's basketball has a 17-23 record over this stretch, while the women's squad has a 22-19 showing.

February 15
2013 -- Men's Basketball (Recap) --
Dameon Nixon hit a game winning jumper to cap off an impressive comeback effort in the Nittany Lions 72-70 victory over Lancaster Bible College. Jeff Schmidt finished with a team-high 19 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots, and two steals. Tom Smith followed with 16 points and eight boards. Nixon netted 11 points and a career-high nine rebounds, while Dontez Reid chipped in 10 points.

2020 -- Women's Basketball (Recap) -- The Penn State Berks women's basketball team exploded for 60 points in the second half as they pulled away late in a 95-88 victory over SUNY Cobleskill. Kylie Herman eclipsed the 1,000 career points mark early in the fourth quarter, making her the sixth member in program history to reach the milestone. Herman finished with a team-high 25 points and 13 rebounds. Sam Brensinger also put on a scoring display, recording a season-high 21 points. Katie Armstrong notched 20 points and 10 assists to go with six steals and four boards. Julia Bookwalter narrowly missed out on a triple-double after recording 10 points, nine assists, and nine boards, to go along with four steals and three blocks. Nicole Kopcik chipped in seven points and four rebounds.

February 16
2008 -- Men's Basketball (Boxscore) --
The men's basketball team used a strong second half effort in a 93-83 win on the road over Penn State Harrisburg. Adrian Golston led Berks with 26 points and 15 rebounds, followed by Adam Fusco with 22 points, six assists, and five steals. Ryan Rooney added 21 points, 12 boards, and three assists. Mark Fowler rounded out the Berks players in double figures with 12 points to go with seven rebounds, four assists, and four blocked shots.

2011 -- Women's Basketball (Recap) -- Steph Binder matched a career-high with 26 points to lead Berks to an 87-70 victory over Penn State Harrisburg. In addition, Binder brought down 10 rebounds to record her third double-double of the season. Dorian Bishop finished the contest with six points, five assists and three clutch blocked shots. In the final 2:50 of the game, the Nittany Lions scored all 15 of their points at the free throw line. Keyaundra Williams had a season-high 14 points, while Shakiyla Stone followed with 12. Chanell Jones continued her strong play off the bench by adding a season-high 10 points. Taylor Kreider led all rebounders with 12 and the Lions won the battle of the boards by a 51-38 margin. Jamie Norris and Bishop each notched three blocked shots and Jones recorded two.

February 17
2007 -- Men's Basketball (Boxscore) --
Berks had five players score in double figures en route to an 84-79 victory over visiting Philadelphia Biblical. Adam Fusco had 14 points, five assists, and three rebounds, while Martin Foss also chipped in 14 points. Dominic Allen (six boards, four assists) and Rashad Allen both need 12 points, while Adrian Golston recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds. Mark Fowler and Nick Guercia each finished with nine points.

2010 -- Women's Basketball (Boxscore) -- Powered by a strong second half, Berks took down Penn State Harrisburg, 67-46, on the road. Courtney Bailey led Berks with 28 points, 20 rebounds, and four steals. Steph Binder chipped in 17 points, eight boards, thee steals, and three assists, while Jasmine Harris-Kane added 11 points, two steals, and two rebounds.

February 18
2012 -- Men's Basketball (Recap) --
Tom Smith gave a dominating performance and the men's basketball team fended off a furious rally by Lancaster Bible College to earn a 78-73 victory. Smith had 22 points, which is one shy of his personal-best, after going a brilliant 10-for-10 shooting from the floor.  The sophomore center also pulled in five rebounds and gave out four assists. Jeff Schmidt notched his sixth double-double after recording 13 points and a contest-high 10 rebounds. Dontez Reid and Connor Hough each chipped in 15 points to round out the Nittany Lions in double figures. Reid finished the game with six boards and six assists.

2020 -- Women's Basketball (Recap) -- The Penn State Berks women's basketball team escaped with an 86-83 overtime victory over visiting Penn State Harrisburg. Kylie Herman led Berks with 21 points, followed by Katie Armstrong with 20 and Sam Brensinger with 16. Julia Bookwalter rounded out the Berks players in double figures with 10 points. Nicole Kopcik pulled down a game-high and career-best 17 rebounds, while Bookwalter and Armstrong each had seven. Armstrong also recorded four assists and three steals, while Bookwalter had three assists and three steals.

February 19
2008 -- Women's Basketball (Boxscore) --
The Nittany Lions held off a late rally to pick up a 74-70 victory over Baptist Bible. Courtney Bailey led Berks with 28 points, 16 rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Steph Binder followed with 13 points, while Dorian Bishop added 10 points and eight boards. Susan Bolgi chipped in seven points, followed by Monique Perreira with six.

2009 -- Baseball (Boxscore) -- The Nittany Lions suffered a 10-8 setback on the road to Gallaudet University. Kevin Heilman struck out five batters in 4.0 innings of work, while Tyler Fleischut had three strikeouts in 4.0 innings of relief. Aaron Klaptosky went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI. Fleischut smacked a pair of triples, while adding a run and an RBI. Pat Griffin finished 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

2011 -- Men's Tennis (Recap) -- The Penn State Berks men's tennis team suffered a 9-0 setback to Ursinus College in the 2011 season opener.
Berks received strong play out of the No. 3 through 5 singles players, with the score not reflected the effort that was displayed. Matt Holdorf fell 6-1, 6-2 in the third singles flight, while Javier Quinones-Melendez fell 6-3, 6-2 and Bradley Kale was edged out 7-5, 6-0 at No. 5. Holdorf and Quinones-Melendez also played hard in their No. 2 doubles match, losing 8-2 to Rowe and Sean Kelley.

2012 -- Men's Basketball (Recap) -- Berks kept up its stellar play with an 83-67 victory over Gallaudet University. Shawn Green maintained his strong play on the offensive end of the court with 23 points to go with three rebounds and three assists. Connor Hough recorded 16 points and eight boards, while Dontez Reid finished with 13 points and a season-high seven assists. Tom Smith gave a strong all-around performance with 12 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocked shots, Jeff Schmidt chipped in 10 points, five boards, four assists, three steals and two blocks.

February 20
2010 -- Men's Basketball (Boxscore) -- The Nittany Lions turned in a dominating performance from start to finish in a 74-57 win over SUNY Cobleskill. Kemian Flowers led the Nittany Lions with 18 points, six rebounds, five steals, and two blocked shots. Dontez Reid came off the bench and matched Flowers with a team-high 18 points, while grabbing five boards. Vonte Shippen recorded 15 points and six rebounds, followed by Adam Fusco with 11 points, seven assists, and five boards. Jeff Schmidt chipped in seven points and snagged a game-best 11 rebounds.

2015 -- Women's Basketball (Recap) -- The women's basketball team staved off a late rush by Wilson College to earn a 59-56 win. Shanelle Koch accounted for nearly half of the Nittany Lions point total with 27 to lead all scorers. In addition, Koch brought down nine rebounds to go with her four blocked shots, three steals, and three assists. Mackenzie Huber chipped in 11 points and grabbed five rebounds. Cassidy Schultz added eight points and seven boards, while handing out a career-high seven assists. Jaslyn Silva and Heather Gray each recorded five points, while Nicole Maslowski matched a career-best with five steals.

February 21
2010 -- Women's Basketball (Boxscore) -- The Nittany Lions closed out the regular season with a 74-68 victory over SUNYIT. Shakiyla Stone led Berks with 20 points and three steals, followed by Courtney Bailey with 19 points and a contest-high 18 rebounds. Jasmine Harris-Kane added 16 points, six boards, and two steals, while Steph Binder netted 11 points. Jamie Norris added four points and five boards, while Dorian Bishop had four boards, two assists, and two blocked shots.

2012 -- Men's Basketball (Recap) -- Shawn Green turned in the finest performance of his career when his team need him most to help Berks to a 67-62 victory over Gallaudet University. Green finished with a game-high 28 points and picked up six rebounds and three steals. Tom Smith recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Connor Hough chipped in 10 points and six boards. Jeff Schmidt finished with eight rebounds, six assists and blocked two shots. Dontez Reid grabbed a career-best nine rebounds and dished out five assists. Jon Skinner played solid coming off the bench for eight points and also grabbed two boards.
