Herman, Brensinger shine in Senior Day win

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team exploded for 60 points in the second half as they pulled away late in a 95-88 victory over SUNY Cobleskill in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Prior to the game, Berks recognized Sam Brensinger, Kylie Herman, Sam Huggins, Elise Paskowski, and Lex Schratt with Senior Day honors. In addition to that recognition, Herman eclipsed the 1,000 career points mark early in the fourth quarter. She is just the sixth member in program history to reach the milestone, as she raised her total to 1,006 points.

The Nittany Lions (12-9, 8-5 NEAC) started out strong and led 20-10 with 2:22 left in the opening period, but Cobleskill was able to pull within three (22-19) by the end of quarter. The Tigers (9-13, 4-9 NEAC) held a 19-13 advantage in the second quarter to lead 38-35 at halftime. Berks edged the Tigers by three points in the third period to send the teams into the fourth quarter tied up at 58-all.

Herman, who shot 3-of-19 over the first three quarters, finally found her touch in the fourth period. The senior guard scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter, the final field goal putting her at exactly 1,000 career points. That basket also put Berks ahead 66-63 with 7:47 to play. Brensinger later extended the Nittany Lions lead to nine points on two occasions with 3-pointers, the second of which put Berks up 84-75 with 3:34 to go. The Tigers kept coming back and pulled to within five points (86-81) with 1:35 to play, but a 3-pointer by Katie Armstrong and layup by Emily Clapper restored the lead to 10 points (91-81) and put the game out of reach with 1:01 left.

Herman finished the game with her first double-double of the season and 11th of her career after recording a team-high 25 points and 13 rebounds. The senior guard also had six assists and three steals in 40 minutes of action. Herman finished with 16 points in the second half, 14 of which came in the fourth quarter.

Brensinger also put on a scoring display, finishing with a season-high 21 points after shooting 9-of-15 from the floor. The senior guard connected on three 3-pointers, all in the second half, as she moved into second place with 107 career three-pointers made. Brensinger, like Herman, did the bulk of her scoring in the second half, where she tallied 15 of her 21 points.

Also getting hot in the second half was Armstrong, who finished with 18 of her 20 points after the intermission. In the second half alone, Armstrong went 7-of-8 from the field, including a 3-of-4 showing from beyond the arc. The junior guard notched her 11th career double-double after handing out a personal-best 10 assists. In addition, Armstrong had six steals and four boards.

Julia Bookwalter narrowly missed out on a triple-double after recording 10 points, nine assists, and nine boards, to go along with four steals and three blocks. Nicole Kopcik chipped in seven points and four rebounds.

Nylasia Sutton led the Tigers with 25 points and seven assists, while Anna Post added 15 points and a game-high 14 boards. Gabby Muraczewski finished with 13 points and eight boards, while Erica Cabrera added 11 points and two assists.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn State Harrisburg in a NEAC South Division contest on Tuesday, February 18 at 8 p.m. The women's squad will team up the men to host their annual Pink Game to benefit the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.
