COLLEGEVILLE, PA (March 19, 2011) – The Penn State Berks men's tennis team suffered a 9-0 setback to Ursinus College in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon.
Although the Nittany Lions (0-3) have not seen the results they would like to see in the win-loss column, there are plenty of positives catching head coach Brian Miller's eye.
"We have played some very strong competition," said Miller. "The guys have played competitively and it will help us as the season progresses."
Berks received strong play out of the No. 3 through 5 singles players, with the score not reflected the effort that was displayed. Matt Holdorf fell 6-1, 6-2 in the third singles flight to Chris Wyshock. In the fourth spot, David Rowe downed Javier Quinones-Melendez 6-3, 6-2 and Bradley Kale was edged out 7-5, 6-0 at No. 5 by Dylan Marsh.
Holdorf and Quinones-Melendez also played hard in their No. 2 doubles match, losing 8-2 to Rowe and Sean Kelley.
The Nittany Lions will travel to Alvernia on Monday for a non-conference contest beginning at 3:30 p.m.
