Green explodes for career-high as Berks wins in quarterfinals

READING, PA (February 21, 2012) - Shawn Green turned in the finest performance of his career when his team need him most to help the Penn State Berks men's basketball team to a 67-62 victory over Gallaudet University in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Quarterfinals on Tuesday evening.

With the Nittany Lions (11-13) clinging to just a two-point advantage and just :33 seconds remaining, Green came up clutch by converting both free throws on a one-and-one to make it a two-possession contest. He capped off his magical night with another pair of free throws with :14 ticks left.

Berks will now face No. 1-seed and host Morrisville College State on Saturday afternoon's NEAC Semifinal round. Prior to that game, No. 2 Penn State Harrisburg and No. 3 Wells College will square off. The winner will meet in the NEAC Finals on Sunday at 2 p.m. with a trip to the NCAA Tournament at stake.

Green finished 9-of-16 shooting from the floor and sunk from baskets from long distance. He also picked up six rebounds and three steals.

This was the second time the two teams met at Beaver Community Center in the last three days. On the final day of the regular-season, the Nittany Lions won 83-67 to jump Gallaudet for the right to host the quarterfinal contest.

Layton Seeber hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer for the Bison (11-13) to tie the game at 32-all heading into the intermission. The largest lead for Berks the rest of the way was nine points just over 10 minutes to play.

Tom Smith recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Connor Hough chipped in 10 points and six boards. Jeff Schmidt, who found out he was an All-NEAC Second Team selection prior to the game finished with eight rebounds, six assists and blocked two shots.

Dontez Reid grabbed a career-best nine rebounds and dished out five assists. Jon Skinner played solid coming off the bench for eight points and also grabbed two boards.

Tony Tatum shot 6-of-9 from the floor and finished with a team-high 16 points for the Bison. Brandon McMillan added 15 points and Jocus Houston finished with 10. Daniel Fava tallied eight points and contest-high 13 boards.

The first semifinal contest will begin at 2 p.m, followed by the Nittany Lions and Mustangs at 4 p.m.
