Stout, Berkel earn All-NEAC Second Team recognition

LATHAM, N.Y. - Bryce Stout and Ben Berkel were rewarded for their strong play this spring by both earning All-NEAC Second Team recognition, as voted on by the coaches and announced by the league office on Friday afternoon.

This marks the first time that Stout and Berkel have received the conference award.

Stout started and played in 18 games, splitting time between right field, first base, and designated hitter. Stout led the Nittany Lions offensive attack this season, batting.387 (24-for-62) with five doubles, one home run, eight RBI, and 12 runs scored. The senior first baseman recorded a hit in 14 of 18 games. Stout recorded seven multi-hit games, including a season-best 4-for-5 effort against Lancaster Bible College. In the field, Stout had 102 putouts and two assists to finish with a .972 fielding percentage.

Berkel appeared in six games and made five starts on the mound for the Nittany Lions. He finished the season 2-3 with a 6.11 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 28.0 innings of work. Berkel allowed seven hits and three runs (two earned), while striking out two in a win over Penn College. He tossed a complete game and matched a career-high six strikeouts in a 9-5 win over Wells College.
