Engelhardt Named Head Baseball Coach

READING, Pa.Paul Engelhardt has been named the new head baseball coach at Penn State Berks, the athletic department announced Monday.

Engelhardt brings more than two decades of collegiate coaching experience to the Lions, including a highly successful 16-year tenure as the head coach at Moravian University. While at Moravian, he compiled a career record of 333-277-1, led the Greyhounds to three NCAA Tournament appearances, and captured Landmark Conference titles in 2010 and 2013.

"From the outset, we were looking for a coach who could bring both experience and a clear vision for building culture," said Director of Athletics Barry Beal. "Paul rose to the top of that list with his background, leadership, and ability to create a strong sense of identity within a program."

During his time at Moravian, Engelhardt was named Landmark Conference Coach of the Year in 2010 and Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year in 2014. He mentored four All-Americans, three Academic All-Americans, and coached 75 all-conference selections. His teams made 12 Landmark Conference postseason appearances in 14 seasons, reaching the championship round seven times.

Engelhardt is excited for the opportunity to lead and build the baseball program.

"Having had the opportunity to play against Penn State Berks in the past, I always felt it was a place where I could successfully recruit and build something special," said Engelhardt. "The campus has a unique location and energy, and this was truly the only job I wanted—it's the perfect fit for me. I'm excited for the opportunity to grow the program and compete at both the regional and national levels. Berks offers a chance to think outside the box in recruiting, attracting a different kind of athlete than the traditional four-year path. Our goal is to create a program where student-athletes can transfer in, develop, and reach their full potential."

In addition to his head coaching duties, Engelhardt served as the program's lead recruiter, camp coordinator, and oversaw major facility upgrades. He also raised over $30,000 annually to fund the program's spring break trips and served on multiple university committees, including Title IX and event management.

Prior to his time at Moravian, Engelhardt held assistant coaching roles at Lafayette College, Muhlenberg College, and several summer league and high school programs. Most recently, he volunteered with the Executive Education Academy in Allentown and worked as a private baseball instructor for players aged 13 to 19.

A native of Hellertown, Pa., Engelhardt earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, with minors in business, legal studies, and political science. He is a longtime member of the American Baseball Coaches Association. Engelhardt resides in Saucon Valley, PA with his wife Alyson, son Elias and daughter Sophie.

Engelhardt will be the seventh coach in program history and will begin his role immediately as the Lions prepare for the upcoming season.
