Baseball Advances to United East Second Round

Millersville, PA- The Penn St. Berks Baseball Team advanced to the second round of United East Championship Tournament, upsetting #7 Lancaster Bible College by a score of 10-4 on Tuesday, April 29.
 
The Lions (10-27 Overall, 6-10 UE) got off to start, scoring in the top of the first inning. Travis Schiller and Isaiah Dull drew walks and Andrew Seibert was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Landon Reyes lifted a sacrifice fly to left field allowing Schiller to score. Nick Hardesty then reached on an error, allowing another run to score. Jacob Berzonski lined a single in to center field, allowing two more runs to score, giving Berks a 4-0 lead.
 
Berks struck in the top of the third inning, extending their lead. Isaiah Dull led off the inning with a single up the middle and stole second to move himself into scoring position. Later in the inning, Dull scored on a wild pitch to make the score 5-0. The Lions then loaded for Landon Eyster and he made the most of it. Eyster belted a triple into right field, clearing the bases and giving an 8-0 lead.
 
The Lions got an outstanding pitching performance from Parker Zook, who pitched 7.0 innings, allowing no runs and only three hits while striking out eight Chargers.
 
Berks tacked another run in the fifth inning. With runners on first and second, Andrew Seibert lined a single through the right side allowing Eyster to score and give Berks a 9-0 lead. In the seventh inning, Eyster stole third base and a throwing error scored to push the Lions lead to 10 runs.
 
LBC was able to plate one run in the eighth inning and plated three runs in the ninth inning to close the deficit, but Amanjeet Turka closed out the victory, securing the Lions place in the United East Championship.
 
WHO'S NEXT
The Lions have advanced to the second round in the United East Championship Tournament, where they will face #2 Penn State Harrisburg in a three-game series starting on Friday, May 2.
