Lions Fall on Senior Day

Reading, PA- The Penn St. Berks Baseball Team concluded the regular season by dropping a pair of conference contests to Keystone College on Friday, April 25. The Lions fell in game one by a score 11-3 and then lost game two by a score of 28-9

The Lions (9-27 Overall, 6-10 UE) fell behind early as six errors aided The Giants (28-8 Overall, 15-1 UE) offensive. Keystone plated three runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, eventually building an 11-0 lead. Meanwhile, Berks was held to just one total hit through the first six innings of action.

Berks finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jacob Berzonski singled to left center field to get the rally started. Peter DePolo III then hammered a home run over the left field wall, making the score 11-2. The Lions added another run in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Berzonski singled up the middle to score Nick Hardesty.

The Lions got a great effort from relief pitcher Josiah Reptsik, who pitched 4.0 innings allowing only one run on one hit.

In between games, the Lions took a few minutes to celebrate the senior members of the Penn State Berks Baseball Team; Logan Ewert, Nick Hardesty and Ryan Spatz.

Berks got off to a much better start in game two, striking in the bottom of the first inning. Travis Schiller reached base on a bunt single and Ewert was hit by a pitch. Landon Reyes crushed a triple into right center field, allowing both runners to score and give Berks a 2-0 lead. Keystone responded, scoring three runs in the top of the second inning to retake the lead.

The Lions had a huge second inning, retaking the lead. With a runner on first, Landon Eyster drove a triple into the right center gap, driving in a run and leveling the score at three. Berks then loaded the bases for Isaiah Dull, and he made the most of the opportunity, smashing a grand slam over the left field fence. Landon Reyes kept the rally going, reaching base on an error. Hardesty the lined a single into left field and a mistake by the Giants allowed Reyes to race around the bases and score. Nicholas Buchman brought in one last run, knocking a double into right field, giving Berks a 9-3 lead.
