Gonzalez picks up weekly conference award

LATHAM, N.Y. - After a couple of strong performances, Sophia Gonzalez was selected as the United East Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Gonzalez earns the weekly recognition for the second time in her career.

The freshman goalkeeper turned in a pair of solid showings in two contests this past week. She combined for 12 saves, while allowing just one penalty kick goal, as Berks went 0-1-1. In a 1-0 setback to Arcadia University, Gonzalez made a season-high 10 saves. She followed that up with two stops in a scoreless draw with Penn State Harrisburg.

For the season, Gonzalez has a 6-3-1 record with five shutouts, 42 saves, and a 1.00 goals against average.

Gonzalez and the Nittany Lions will travel to Penn State Abington for an United East contest on Wednesday, October 5 at 1 p.m.
