READING, Pa. — Penn State Berks dominated Keystone College with a decisive 13-1 victory on Tuesday, October 21 at Berks Turf Field, highlighted by a historic performance by
Ashley Jocham.
The match began with Berks taking control early, as
Isabelle Wilkes found the back of the net in the third minute with an assist from
Ashley Jocham. The home team quickly extended the lead with Jocham scoring in the sixth minute, assisted by Wilkes. The Nittany Lions continued to press, adding three more goals by the 12th minute, with
Paige Thomas and
Zoe Macknicki each contributing, with both goals assisted by
Payton Klopp. The momentum remained with Berks as they added two more goals by the 15th minute. Jocham and Macknicki each scored again, with assists from
Faith Wavershak and
Devon Deery, respectively. Before the half-hour mark,
Sydney Gonzalez scored twice, contributing to the scoring surge, while Wavershak and
Zoey Mortimer added to the tally, both finding the net before the period ended. Berks closed the first half with a commanding 11-0 lead, displaying effective teamwork and offensive execution. Keystone managed a couple of attempts but was unable to capitalize, with
Sophia Gonzalez making several saves.
The second half commenced with Berks leading by ten goals, showing offensive intent from the outset. Despite an early offside call, the home team maintained pressure with a corner kick shortly after. Keystone managed to score in the 54th minute with a goal by Brooke Freni, assisted by Jordan Chabreck, reducing the gap slightly. The Nittany Lions responded efficiently, regaining momentum in the 60th minute when Thomas scored with an assist from Wavershak. The home team extended their lead further as Jocham found the back of the net in the 68th minute. The match was stopped in the 70th minute with Berks holding a commanding 13-1 advantage.
Jocham recorded four goals and four assists, including a game-winning goal, showing her influence on the match. Her 12 total points are the second most in a single game in program history, and her four goals are tied for the fourth most in a single game in program history, while her four assists are the second most in single game history. Gonzalez found the net twice and led with seven shots, maintaining offensive pressure throughout. Thomas finished with two goals and an assist, bolstering the team's attacking efforts. Mortimer scored once and added an assist, contributing to a total of three points on the day.
With the win, the Nittany Lions have earned a berth in the United East Championship Tournament.
