Men's tennis drop season opener to Alvernia

Box Score READING, PA (September 17, 2012) - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team opened up its 2012-13 season with a 9-0 loss to Alvernia University on Monday afternoon at Gring's Mill. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions received some strong play out of the No. 3 doubles team of Shesh Patel and Michael Smith. The duo fell by a score of 8-4 to Jared Conapitski and Kyle Clark. Patel also put up a fight in fifth singles match, losing by a score of 6-3, 6-3 to Conapitski.

Drew Weinhold made his collegiate debut at No. 1 singles against senior Nate Bauer, who was an All-Commonwealth first team selection a year ago. Weinhold showed that he is ready to compete at high level in his 6-4, 6-4 loss to Bauer.

The Nittany Lions will return to action on Saturday, October 6 at 12 p.m. in an away match at Cabrini College.
