READING, Pa- Penn State Berks advanced in the United East Tournament, defeating Penn State Abington, 4-3, in a thrilling First Round matchup on Friday, April 24.
The Nittany Lions got off to a good start, winning two of three doubles matches to earn the first team point of the match.
Talan Nguyen and
Jazae Maina-Itegi teamed to earn a 6-4 victory in the No. 1 doubles match.
Donovan Sullivan and
Joseph Martin worked together to earn a 6-1 victory in the No. 2 doubles match.
The teams turned their attention to doubles play and Abington battled back into the match winning the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches to take the lead. Sullivan answered back, winning the No. 3 singles match 6-2, 6-2. Maina-Itegi leveled the match at three, winning the No. 2 singles match, 6-1, 6-1. All attention turned to the No. 1 singles match to determine the match. Nguyen fended off a tough battle by Abington's Daniel Trott to earn a 6-4, 6-3 victory, securing the match of the Nittany Lions.
