Media, PA – Penn State Berks men's and women's tennis teams overcame cold temperatures to sweep Penn State Brandywine in their conference matchups on Saturday, March 28. The men's team earned a 7-0 victory, while the women's team secured a 5-2 triumph.
The men's match got underway with doubles play. Jazae Maina-Itegi and Talan Nguyen teamed up for a 6-1 win in the No. 1 doubles match. Joseph Martin and Donovan Sullivan dominated at No. 2 doubles en route to a 6-0 victory. Caleb Corjuc and Evan Imschweiler followed with a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles, securing the team point and setting the tone for the rest of the match.
As play shifted to singles, Nguyen earned a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles. Maina-Itegi and Sullivan swept their opponents at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, each earning 6-0, 6-0 victories. Martin was equally dominant, winning the No. 4 singles match 6-1, 6-0. Imschweiler and Corjuc closed out the day with wins in the final two singles matches, putting the finishing touches on the 7-0 victory.
In the women's match, the Nittany Lions claimed the opening point in doubles play. Eliana Koehler and Hester Xie powered to a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Marissa Bailey and Zoe Macknicki secured a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles to clinch the team point.
Berks carried that momentum into singles play. Koehler earned a thrilling three-set win at No. 2 singles, while Lannie Beck added a team point at No. 3 singles with a 6-4, 7-6 victory. Madelyn Caris dominated at No. 5 singles, rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Devon Deery rounded out the scoring, rallying from a slow start to earn a three-set win at No. 6 singles.
