Men's & Women's Tennis Continue Playoff Pushes

Abington, Pa – Penn State Berks men's and women's tennis earned critical victories over Penn State Abington in their conference matchups on Saturday, March 28. The men's team earned a 5-2 victory, while the women's team secured a 6-1 triumph.

The final regular season match for the men's tennis team got underway with doubles play. Jazae Maina-Itegi and Talan Nguyen teamed up for a 6-3 win in the No. 1 doubles match. Joseph Martin and Donovan Sullivan had a strong showing  in the  No. 2 doubles, picking up the 6-2 victory. Caleb Corjuc and Evan Imschweiler rounded out doubles play with a 6-4 victory in the No. 3 doubles match.

As play shifted to singles, Nguyen overcame a stiff challenge in the No. 1 singles match earning the team point with a 7-6, 6-2. Maina-Itegi controlled the No. 2 singles match, winning 6-1, 6-1. Sullivan was just as dominant, rolling to a 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles match.  Martin won a marathon in the No. 4 singles match up, winning 7-5, 6-2, 12-10.

In the women's match, the Nittany Lions claimed the opening point in doubles play. Mia Aharonoff and Lannie Beck teamed together in the No. 1 doubles match, outlasting their opponents to win 7-6 (11-9). Devon
Deery and Eliana Koehler powered to a 6-3 victory in the No. 2 doubles match. Finally, the duo of Marissa Bailey and Hester Xie recorded a 6-4 victory in the No. 3 doubles contest.

Berks continued their dominance in singles play. Aharonoff registered a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the No. 1 singles match. Beck added a team point at No. 3 singles as her opponent withdrew in the first set. Deery controlled the No. 4 singles match, winning 6-1, 6-0. Hester Xie and Marissa Bailey rounded out the match, earning dominant victories in the No. 5 and No. 6 singles match.

With the win, women's tennis has secured a berth in the United East Championship Tournament. 

WHO'S NEXT
Men's Tennis has concluded play during the regular season and will now wait to see their match up in the United East Championship Tournament. Women's Tennis will conclude play in the regular season when the host Cedar Crest on Saturday, April 18.
