Men's tennis edge Albright in season opener

Box Score READING, PA (September 18, 2011) - Bradley Kale and Josh Konz swept their matches on Sunday afternoon to help lead the Penn State Berks men's tennis team to a 5-4 victory over Albright College in the 2011 season opener.

Kale picked up a 6-0, 6-3 win playing at No. 2 singles and Konz was a 6-2, 7-5 winner in the fourth flight. The duo had a dominating 8-1 victory in the No. 2 doubles slot.

Sophomore
Steven Roughton, who was the NEAC Champion in third singles last spring, picked up right where he left off. Playing in the top spot Sunday, Roughton outlasted Ruicong Lui to earn the win. Roughton picked up the first 6-2, then lost a 6-7 heartbreaker. He then emerged in the decisive third set by winning 6-4.

Freshman
Jordan Shankroff picked up a win at No. 3 singles in his first collegiate action. He won by set scores of 6-2, 6-2.

Roughton and Shankroff battled hard at the first doubles, but were edged out 8-6.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Muhlenberg College for a non-conference match on Saturday, September 24 at 3 p.m.
