Men's tennis drop fall finale to Alvernia

READING, PA (October 4, 2011) -
In the final match of the fall season, the Penn State Berks men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Alvernia University on Tuesday afternoon at Gring's Mills.

The Nittany Lions played strong in the doubles matches, but dropped all three to fall behind 3-0. Josh Konz and Owen Shartle played the closest match, losing 8-5 in the No. 3 doubles. Both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches were 8-4 victories in the Crusaders favor.

Matt Holdorf dropped a three set thriller to Dan Minnich in second singles. Minnich took the first set 7-5, but Holdorf evened it up with a 6-3 win in the second. The tiebreaker went back-and-forth before Minnich sealed it by a score of 11-9.

Freshman Jordan Shankroff also played a tight singles match, falling 7-5 in both sets to Will Gerber.

The spring season will begin on March 17 at 10 a.m. in a home match against Ursinus College.
