Barry Beal

Barry Beal enters his second year as the director of athletics at Penn State Berks in 2025-26 after starting his duties in Aug. 2024.

In his duties at director of athletics, Beals oversees varsity athletics, club sports, intramurals and the Beaver Athletics and Wellness Center.

In his first year at the helm in 2024-25, Beal secured the largest single donation in the history of Penn State Berks athletics. Beal successfully solicited funds to add new fencing to the baseball and softball complex and new scoreboards to the gymnasium.

Penn State Berks also upgraded its webcasting capabilities with a new contract with Hudl to stream all Berks home athletics events. Projects currently in the works include branded windscreens for all outdoor facilities and new banners for the gymnasium. The gymnasium floor is also being repainted and refinished to offer a cleaner look for the varsity basketball and volleyball teams.

In personnel, Beal successfully added new head coaching positions in both men’s soccer and women’s basketball while reshaping the administrative team to now include three full-time assistant directors of athletics. In the United East Presidents Cup standings, Penn State Berks jumped from 14th place out of 17 schools in 2023-24 to eighth place in Beal's first year, tying the largest jump in the standings among conference members.

The athletics department hosted an upgraded student-athlete awards banquet at the Redner’s Events Center at the home of the Reading Fightin’ Phils, and the department has also greatly expanded the use of its facilities for outside events.

Beal serves on the Penn State Berks Administrative Council, the Penn State Berks Advisory Board Student Affairs and Recruitment Committee, the Homecoming Committee, and the Enrollment Management Committee.

In his role at TCNJ, Beal oversaw the sports information, marketing and branding responsibilities for the Lions. Beal led the charge for the TCNJ baseball team to play an annual game at Trenton Thunder Ballpark, allowing the team to play in a professional stadium. The game also doubled as TCNJ’s student-athlete appreciation night. He also worked extensively on the department’s Hall of Champions exhibit, highlighting the school’s national champions and All-Americans.

He is no stranger to the area after serving as the sports information director at Albright College from 2016-18. He also has sports information experience at Saint Francis University (Pa.), Oregon State University and Frostburg State University.
