Barry Named Permanent Head Baseball Coach

Reading, Pa- Penn State Berks Director of Athletics Barry Beal has announced that Michael "Boomer" Barry has been named the permanent head coach of the Penn State Berks baseball program.

Barry assumed leadership of the program as interim head coach prior to the 2026 season and guided the team through a period of transition while continuing to foster a positive culture centered on student-athlete development and success. Following a successful season at the helm, the interim designation has been removed and Barry will continue leading the Nittany Lions moving forward.

"Over the course of the season, Boomer demonstrated outstanding leadership, professionalism, and a deep commitment to our student-athletes," said Beal. "He stepped into a challenging situation and provided the stability and direction our baseball program needed. The progress we have seen within the program made removing the interim tag an easy decision, and I am excited to continue building toward sustained success under his leadership."

Barry arrived at Penn State Berks in the fall of 2025, bringing more than 25 years of collegiate coaching experience. Throughout his career, he has earned a reputation for building strong relationships with student-athletes while emphasizing academic success, personal growth, and competitive excellence.

Prior to joining Penn State Berks, Barry served as an assistant coach at Kutztown University during the 2025 season. His extensive coaching background also includes stops at Albright College, Ave Maria University, Southern Virginia University, Lynchburg College, Keuka College, Haverford College, The Catholic University of America, Centenary College, Virginia Wesleyan University, and Andrew College.

A graduate of Virginia Wesleyan College, Barry earned a bachelor's degree in English before completing a master's degree in Sport Management from Old Dominion University.

"I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to continue leading this program," said Barry. "I want to thank Barry Beal and the administration for their trust and support. Our student-athletes have worked incredibly hard, and I am proud of what we accomplished together this season. I am excited to continue building a culture that emphasizes accountability, development, and a commitment to excellence both on and off the field."

With Barry leading the program, Penn State Berks baseball looks to build upon the foundation established during the 2026 season and continue competing for success within the United East Conference.
