Men's tennis with strong showing at individual tournament

CLARKS SUMMIT, PA - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team had one doubles team champion and three singles tournament winners in the NAC West Division Individual Tournament on Sunday afternoon at th Birchwood Tennis Courts. (Results)

The doubles team of Drew Weinhold and Will Byler earned All-NAC First Team honors after winning the No. 1 doubles tournament. Ryan Fritz and Jerrad Seifrit were runner-up at second doubles, while Angel Negron and Nick Volk (No. 3) also finished in second place as all four received all-conference second team honors.

In the individual tournaments, Byler (No. 2), Negron (No. 4), and Volk (No. 5) were all champions of their respective tournaments to earn a spot on the first team. Weinhold (No. 1), Fritz (No. 3), and Owen Jones (No. 6) each were second team honorees after placing second in their individual tournaments.

The 2015-16 squad finished off the year in second place in the regular season standings and were runner-up in the team tournament. The team finished with an overall record of 9-7, which ties for the most wins in a season since the 2010-11 team went 9-6.

Weinhold finishes off his stellar four-year career as the top men's tennis player in Penn State Berks history. He is the all-time winningest member with 75 combined wins (40 singles, 35 doubles), to go along with two NAC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors, as well as eight all-conference selections. Seifrit, also a senior, finishes his career with the fourth most doubles wins (21) and is time All-NAC award winner.
