Men's tennis picks up fourth straight shutout

Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, PA (April 18, 2015) - The Penn State Berks men's tennis squad picked up its fourth consecutive shutout after defeating the Pennsylvania College of Technology, 9-0, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions (4-9, 3-1 NEAC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after snagging three tight doubles bouts. The No. 1 duo of Drew Weinhold and Ryan Fritz pulled out an 8-4 win, which is the same score that Volan Nnanpalle and Will Byler won by at second doubles. Dylan Deleon and Jerrad Seifrit escaped their third doubles battle with a thrilling 8-6 victory.

Fritz cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles, while Nnanpalle was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at third singles. Weinhold won his top singles match by a 6-3, 6-0 margin and Deleon was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at fifth singles. Byler picked up a 6-2, 6-4 victory at second singles. John Zimmerman picked up a win in the tightest match of the day, winning 6-3 in the first set and clinching the win with a 7-6 clincher in the second set.

The Nittany Lions will finish off their regular season with a NEAC contest at Bryn Athyn College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
