Weinhold earns second straight Player of the Year honors

CLARKS SUMMIT, PA (April 27, 2014) - For the second straight year, sophomore Drew Weinhold earned the honor of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Player of the Year by winning the No. 1 singles tournament on Sunday afternoon at Birchwood Tennis Club.

Weinhold finished off a perfect run through conference competition by picking up a pair of wins in singles. He downed Terry Long of Rutgers-Camden by a score of 6-0, 6-3 in the semifinal round and then defeated Mike Herman of Penn State Abington 6-3, 7-5 to win the prestigious honors. Weinhold is the only player in program history to win Player of the Year honors two times.

In addition, the Nittany Lions had everyone on their starting roster earn All-NEAC Third Team honors.

Weinhold and Ryan Fritz top doubles, Volan Nnanpalle and Dylan Deleon at No. 2, and Jerrad Seifrit and Justin Bass at No. 3 all finished in third place. Nnanpalle, Fritz, Bass, and Shesh Patel earned a spot on the third team of the singles tournament.

The Nittany Lions will return the bulk of their lineup and will look to compete for the conference title in the 2014-15 season.
