Nittany Lions rally late to take series from Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. (April 13, 2014) – The Penn State Berks baseball team scored 10 runs over the final three innings for a come-from-behind 16-12 win over Cazenovia College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Sunday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (10-11, 6-1 NEAC) finished off the weekend taking two games in the three game season series. Berks leads Gallaudet University (7-2 NEAC) by virtue of winning percentage for first place in the conference standings.

The Wildcats (5-15, 1-4 NEAC) scored five runs in the third inning, four runs in the fifth, and one in the sixth to lead 10-6 in the latter part of the game. Berks cut the deficit to 10-9 with three runs in the top of the seventh, but Cazenovia responded with a two-run home run in the bottom half to go ahead by three runs. The Nittany Lions tallied four runs in the eighth and tacked on three more in the ninth to secure the win.

The middle part of the order finished 14-for-26 with 13 RBI, 10 runs scored, four doubles, and two home runs.

Ryan Tantala finished the contest 4-for-6 with four RBI, one home run, a double, and two runs scored. The senior first-baseman finished the weekend 7-for-13 with five RBI, three doubles, and four runs scored. He raised his batting average from .283 to .339 in that time.

Tom Grablewski was 3-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBI, while Connor Corson went 3-for-6 with a double, solo home run, three RBI, and two runs scored. Luke Erb scored three times, while Nick Zipay crossed the plate twice.
