Nittany Lions drop two to Gettysburg College

GETTYSBURG, PA (March 23, 2014) – The Penn State Berks baseball suffered a pair of setbacks to Gettysburg College, 4-3 and 6-1, in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Kirchhoff Field.

The Nittany Lions came to life with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 3-2 lead in the first game. But the Bullets (13-3) were able to bounce back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Tom Grablewski recorded two hits, while Nick Zipay and LUKE ERB each had one. Phil Anderson, LUKE ERB, and KEEANU ERB all scored during the three run seventh inning.

Steve Koenig tossed 5.0 solid innings, scattering four hits and allowing two runs. He struck out two batters. John Bonino pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning in which he threw just eight pitches.

In the second game, the Bullets used two unearned runs in the first inning and again scored two runs in the third and fourth to build a comfortable 6-0 cushion.

Erik Lanzner got hit by a pitch to lead off the fifth and eventual was advanced to third base on a two-out single by Anderson. KEEANU ERB walked to load the bases and Troy Salerno followed with an infield single to score Lanzner.

Kyle Hartman struck out five batters over 4.0 innings of work. Keith Salmon threw 2.0 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Muhlenberg College for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, March 25 at 3:30 p.m.
