Nittany Lions edge out Lancaster Bible College, 5-4

READING, PA (April 9, 2013) - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team won its third straight match after defeating Lancaster Bible College, 5-4, in a North Athletic Conference (NAC) Western Division contest on Tuesday afternoon at Gring's Mill Tennis Courts. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions (6-3, 2-0 NAC) took the early momentum by capturing 8-4 wins from Drew Weinhold and George Chacko at first doubles and Creston Smoker and Jeremy Emami at the third spot.

Weinhold made quick work in singles action with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the top spot. Smoker won at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0 to put Berks within one of clinching the match. Steven Roughton wrapped up the win for Berks with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles.

Despite the match already being decided, the most competitive and thrilling battle came from the No. 6 singles flight. Jerrad Seifrit won the opening set 7-6, after taking the tiebreaker by a 10-2 margin. Todd Holbrook evened things by winning the second set 7-6, behind an 11-9 triumph in the tiebreak. The two went back-and-forth throughout the super tiebreak with Holbrook emerging with a 10-7 win.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday, April 13 at 11 a.m. The Nittany Lions will be taking part in Pink Game festivities with all proceeds benefiting the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.
