Men's tennis shuts out Keuka in conference opener

Box Score READING, PA (April 6, 2013) - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team made quick work of visiting Keuka College with a 9-0 win in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener on Saturday afternoon at Gring's Mill Tennis Courts. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions (4-3, 1-0 NEAC) raced out to a 3-0 lead in the doubles action to take control of the match. Drew Weinhold and George Chacko picked up an 8-2 win at No. 1, while Steven Roughton and Angel Negron earned a 9-0 sweep at the second spot. Creston Smoker and Jeremy Emami paired up for an 8-1 win at No. 3 to complete the doubles sweep.

Weinhold was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Justin Fries in No. 1 singles, followed by Chacko with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 win at No. 2. Roughton was leading 6-0, 2-0 in his match before winning by default. Negron, Smoker, and Jerrad Seifrit all won by scores of 6-1, 6-0 in the fourth, fifth and sixth singles flights.

The Nittany Lions will continue NEAC play when they host Lancaster Bible College on Tuesday, April 9 at 3:30 p.m.
