Men's tennis picks up first win of spring season

Box Score READING, PA (March 20, 2013) - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team picked up a 7-2 decision over visting Baptist Bible College on Wednesday afternoon at Gring's Mill. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions improved their overall record to 2-3 on the season and 1-1 this spring, while Baptist Bible drops to 0-2 on the year.

The Nittany Lions took early control of the match by taking two of three doubles matches. Steve Roughton and ANGEL NEGRON combined for an 8-4 win at the second flight, while Creston Smoker and Jeremy Emami won 8-0 at the third spot.

Drew Weinhold earned a come-from-behind win out of first singles. Caleb Evans won the first set 7-6 (7-3), but Weinhold followed with a 6-4 win in the second set. Weinhold sealed the victory with a 10-7 decision in the supertiebreaker.

George Chacko won at second singles by a score of 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) and Smoker was victorious at No. 3 by a score of 6-3, 4-6, 10-3. Jerrad Seifrit and Shesh Patel, playing at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively, were each 6-0, 6-0 winners.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Penn State Brandywine for a non-conference contest on Friday, March 22 at 3:30 p.m.
