Men's tennis cruises to win in regular season finale

Box Score READING, PA (April 21, 2012) - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team closed out the 2011-12 regular season with a convincing 8-1 victory of Keuka College in an North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest at Hillcrest Racquet Club on Saturday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions finished in second place in the NEAC conference with a record of 4-1. Penn State Harrisburg has clinched first-place regardless of the outcome of their match with Keuka tomorrow.

Matt Holdorf and Dashiell Kopp set the tone of the match early with an 8-2 victory out of the No. 1 doubles spot. Bradley Kale and Brett Durante, playing together for the first time this season, were able to pull out an 8-7 win at second doubles. Javier Quinones-Melendez and Creston Smoker continued their fine play at No. 3, winning by a score of 8-0.

Holdorf emerged the winner in his battle at No. 1 singles with Justin Fries. After dropping the first set 7-6 (7-2 in tiebreaker), Holdorf evened the match with a 6-0 win in the second. He finished off the comeback with a 10-2 win in the third set tiebreak.

Kopp (No. 4) and Smoker (No. 5) each picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins at their respective singles matches. Amir Alikhani was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 6 singles, while Quinones-Melendez won at second singles (6-1, 6-1).
