Men's tennis drop conference tilt at Penn State Harrisburg

Box Score MIDDLETOWN, PA (April 14, 2012) - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team lost its first North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest of the season, falling to Penn State Harrisburg, 8-1, at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon. (Boxscore)

With the loss, Berks now holds a 6-7 overall record and 2-1 in the NEAC, while Harrisburg improves to 9-5 on the season and 3-0 in the conference.

Berks played much stronger than the score will indicate, as Berks was very close in two of the three doubles bouts. Matt Holdorf and Dashiell Kopp gave a strong effort at first doubles, but Joshua Cartmill and Evgeny Matigullin emerged with the 9-7 win. Creston Smoker and Amir Alikhani also suffered the same 9-7 setback at third doubles.

Kopp grabbed the Nittany Lions lone victory with a 6-3, 6-3 decision out of fourth singles. The sophomore improved to 3-0 in singles play with the victory.

The Nittany Lions travel to York College (Pa.) for a non-conference contest on Monday, April 16 at 4 p.m.
