Men's tennis cruises to NEAC win over Lancaster Bible

Box Score LANCASTER, PA (April 12, 2012) - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team had dominating performance up and down its lineup to pick up an 8-1 victory over Lancaster Bible College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference contest on Thursday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The win moves the Nittany Lions to 6-6 for the regular season and 2-0 in the NEAC, while the Chargers fall to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Matt Holdorf and Dashiell Kopp cruised to an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. The second and third doubles teams had a tougher task, but were still able to pull out the victories. Javier Quinones-Melendez and Bradley Kale paired up for an 8-5 win at second doubles, while Creston Smoker and Amir Alikhani emerged with an 8-6 win at third doubles.

In singles play, Holdorf continued his strong play with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 1 flight. He has won each of his last two matches while playing in the top spot. Quinones-Melendez, playing at No. 2 singles for just the second time this season, won by a scored of 6-3, 6-2.

Kale had a battle on his hand at third singles, winning by set scores of 6-4, 6-3 over Noel Grant. Kopp, playing in his second singles match of the season, won 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot. Smoker rounded out the Nittany Lion winners with his 6-2, 6-3 victory in the fifth flight.

The Nittany Lions will continue NEAC play with a road match at Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m.
