Men's tennis cruises to first win of the season

Box Score RADNOR, PA (October 6, 2012) - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team downed Carbini College, 8-1, in a non-conference contest at Dixon Courts on Saturday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions (1-1) came off of a 19-day layoff since their contest against Alvernia University on Monday, September 17.

Drew Weinhold and Brian Campo teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while CRESTON SMOKER and Jeremy Emami won 8-4 from the No. 2 spot.

With a 2-1 lead heading into single play, the Nittany Lions cruised to the win as each singles player won their match. Weinhold made quick of his match at top spot, winning by set scores of 6-1, 6-1. Emami also dominated his match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.

Campo won the first set of his second singles match, but Anthony DiCicco battled back for a win in the second. Campo squeezed out the victory with a 6-4 win in the decisive third set. CRESTON SMOKER (No. 3) pulled out a 7-5 win in the first set and earned the victory by a score of 6-2 in the second set. With the contest decided, Shesh Patel and Michael Smith finished of their matches with pro-sets. Patel won 8-3 at the fifth flight, while Smith was an 8-6 winner in the sixth spot.

The Nittany Lions will complete the fall portion of their schedule with a road match at Albright College on Wednesday, October 10. The match is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
