Men's tennis picks up third straight win

ABINGTON, PA (April 3, 2011) - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team downed Penn State Abington 7-2 in its North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener on road Sunday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (3-3) picked up their third straight victory, but it was the first time that they did not shutout the opposition in a winning effort.

Berks took two out of three doubles matches to take momentum into the singles matches. Tim Ko and Matt Holdorf beat Jordan Domsky and Ross Raddi by a score of 8-3 in the second doubles flight. Javier Quinones-Melendez and Bradley Kale picked up an 8-5 triumph in the third doubles spot.

Ko then defeated Nigel Hopkinson in the No. 1 singles spot with set scores of 6-4, 7-5. Steven Roughton was a 7-5, 6-1 winner in the third slot. Holdorf (No. 4) beat Matthew Wolff 6-2, 6-1 and Quinones-Melendez won 6-4, 6-4 in the fifth spot. Kale rounded out the winners with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 6 flight.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn State Harrisburg in an NEAC match on Tuesday, April 5 beginning at 4 p.m.
