CLARKS SUMMIT, PA (April 29, 2011) – Steven Roughton won an individual singles title, while Tim Ko and Matt Holdorf were doubles champions at the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Individual Tournament on Friday afternoon at Birchwood Tennis Center. Berks had seven athletes earn a spot on the All-Conference teams.
Ko and Holdorf were seeded second in the No. 2 doubles tournament. They opened up with an 8-2 win over the Penn State Abington doubles squad. In a rematch of yesterday's championship match, Ko and Holdorf edged out Tyler Bixler and Vincent Lepore (Penn State Harrisburg) by a score of 9-7.
Roughton entered the No. 3 singles tournament as the second seeded player. He defeated Jordan Domsky of Penn State Abington 6-1, 6-2. Roughton then beat top seed Nate Tulchinsky, of Penn State Harrisburg, 6-4, 6-3 in the title game. Kale and Quinones-Melendez finished in third place in the No. 3 doubles tournament.
Holdorf finished runner-up in No. 4 singles tournament, while Javier Quinones-Melendez (No. 5 singles) also had a second place finish. Ko (No. 1) and Bradley Kale (No. 6) each rebounded from opening round losses to finish in third place of their respective tournaments.
