Men's tennis drops Albright, 8-1, in season finale

READING, PA (April 26, 2011) - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team closed out the regular season with an 8-1 non-conference win over Albright College Tuesday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (8-5) have won three straight matches and five of their last six to carry some momentum into this weekend's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship.

Berks swept the doubles portion, with No. 1 duo Andrew Miller and Steven Roughton shutting out their opposition 8-0. Tim Ko and Javier Quinones-Melendez (No. 2) grabbed an 8-3 victory and the third doubles team of Bradley Kale and Creston Smoker were 8-3 winners.

In singles action, Ko remained unbeaten on the day with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Kenneth Ip in first singles.

Roughton (No. 2) won by set scores of 6-2, 6-2 and No. 3 Quinones-Melendez won his first set 6-0 and got the win when his opponent retired in the second set. Kale won in fourth singles with scores of 6-3, 6-1.

Cody Schreiner fell 6-4 in the first set and evened things with a 6-3 second set win. He earned the victory with a 10-7 win in the tiebreaker.

The Nittany Lions will compete in the NEAC Championship on Thursday and Friday in Clarks Summit.
