Men's tennis edge out Cabrini, 5-4

RADNOR, PA (April 20, 2011) - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team pulled out a 5-4 win over Cabrini College in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon on the Dixon Courts.

The Nittany Lions (6-5) got back on their winning ways after dropping a conference contest with Penn State Harrisburg on Monday. The Lions have won six of their last eight matches.

In the doubles play, the No. 2 tandem of BRADLEY KALE and CRESTON SMOKER won by a score of 8-5. CODY SCHREINER and MATTHEW MARCHALONIS were 8-3 winners at No. 3 doubles, giving the Lions a 2-1 edge heading into singles.

Steve Roughton (No. 1) defeated Ian Monson by a score of 6-4, 6-3. JAVIER QUINONES-MELENDEZ, who is the reigning NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week, was a 6-0, 6-1 winner in the second singles. Schreiner had the decisive win for Berks in the fifth singles flight after pulling out a 7-5, 6-4 victory.

The Nittany Lions will host SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday afternoon in the NEAC regular season finale starting at 10 a.m.
