READING, PA (April 14, 2011) - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team earned a 6-3 win over Baptist Bible in its return to the courts for the first time in a week on Thursday afternoon at Gring's Mill.
The Nittany Lions (4-4) got back on their winning ways after a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Alvernia last Thursday that put a halt to a season-high three match win streak. Berks took 2 of 3 doubles matches and won each of the final four singles spots.
Javier Quinones-Melendez and BRADLEY KALE each went 2-0. Quinones-Melendez teamed with TIM KO for an 8-5 victory in the No. 2 doubles. He then won 6-0, 6-1 at the fifth singles. Quinones-Melendez is unbeaten in his last 10 matches.
Kale and JOSH KONZ picked up an 8-0 win in the third doubles pairing. Kale then outlasted Luke Williams for a win at sixth singles. Kale took the first set 6-0 before falling 7-6 in the second set. Kale then emerged with the win after topping Williams 10-8 in a pro-set.
Steven Roughton and MATT HOLDORF rounded out the Nittany Lion winners. Roughton won at No. 3 singles (6-3, 6-1) and Holdorf picked up the victory (6-0, 6-1) in the fourth slot.
The Nittany Lions will travel to Keuka College for a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Sunday, April 17 at 2 p.m.
