Men's tennis downs Immaculata, 9-0

READING, PA (March 26, 2011) - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team picked up its first win of the 2011 season after defeating host Immaculata 9-0 in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (1-3) swept the doubles sets in commanding fashion. The top duo of ANDREW MILLER and STEVEN ROUGHTON downed Nick Tarlecki and Demetrios Vlahos by a score of 8-1. The No. 2 team of TIM KO and MATT HOLDORF won 8-3, while BRADLEY KALE and CRESTON SMOKER took the third flight 8-3.

In singles play, Miller again got the best of Tarlecki with a 6-1, 6-3 win. Roughton outlasted Vlahos 6-4 in the first set and clinched the victory with a 6-2 second set. Ko (No. 3) and Holdorf (No. 4) each claimed 6-0, 6-0 triumphs. JAVIER QUINONES-MELENDEZ was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at the fifth spot and Kale rounded out the singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win at sixth.

The Nittany Lions will host Lancaster Bible on Tuesday, March 29 at 3:30 p.m.
