Women's tennis tops Clarks Summit in season opener

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team opened up the 2022 season with a 7-2 victory over Clarks Summit College in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions started out strong with wins in two of the three doubles bouts. The No. 2 duo of Madison Hetrick and Cassie Shoupe earned an 8-3 win, while Aaliss Osidele and Sam Hagenbush had an 8-6 triumph at third doubles. The top tandem of Mary King and Bailey Rock were edged 10-8 in the tiebreak in for a 9-8 setback to Naomi Sadowitz and Melanie Stabler.

In singles action, Hetrick (No. 3) won 6-1, 6-1, while Rocker was a 6-1, 6-0 at the fourth spot. Hagenbush (No. 6) dropped her first set 6-0, but rallied with a 6-3, 6-3 to win her match and clinch the victory for her team. Shoupe had a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 and King earned a thrilling 7-5, 6-3 win at the top flight.

The Nittany Lions will host Alvernia University on Friday, March 18 at 4 p.m.
