Men's soccer knocks off Abington in double overtime

ABINGTON, PA (September 30, 2015) - Omar Guzman blasted a low line drive near post from inside the box in the 104th minute to give the Penn State Berks men's team a 2-1 double overtime victory over host Penn State Abington in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Wednesday afternoon.

The win improves Berks to 4-5-1 overall and 2-3 in conference action, while Abington falls to 5-3 overall and took their first NEAC loss to fall 3-1. This was the first time Berks defeated Abington, who leads the all-time series by a 1-5-1 margin. Berks has now played in four contests that have went beyond regulation, they improve to 3-0-1 in those contests.

Abington got on the board first when Dimitri Bourlako headed home a goal at the 26:09 mark of the opening half. They took their 1-0 lead into the intermission, but Berks netted the equalizer early in the second half wheen Jon Mercier crossed from the left wing and Joe Budnovitch sent a shot into the bottom rightside in the 50th minute.

Over the remaining 40 minutes of regulation, Berks was able to get off five shots (two on goal) while Abington managed two shots (neither on goal). Abington had one shot in the first overtime, while Berks had two, including Guzman's game winner. For the game, Berks outshot Abington by a 12-8 margin and held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Rotman Saltos made one save in net to record the victory.

Guzman raised his team in lead in goals to six on the season, which is tied for second in the NEAC. Budnovitch tallied his fourth goal of the season, which is second on the team and tied for sixth in the conference.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Lancaster Bible College for a NEAC contest on Saturday, October 3 at 1 p.m.
