Yurkovic nets game winner in overtime

READING, PA (September 26, 2015) - Just 23 seconds ticked off the clock in overtime when T.J. Yurkovic sent in the game winner to give the Penn State Berks men's soccer team a 3-2 win over Cazenovia College on Saturday afternoon.

Yurkovic received a pass in the midfield from Wes Fox and found himself just outside of the box with a defender on his side and the keeper on top of him. The sophomore forward's shot deflected off of the keepers shin, and the deflected off of Yurkovic's shin and rolled straight into the empty net. This was the second overtime gamewinner scored by Yurkovic this season, his other came 52 seconds into double overtime in a 3-2 win over Albright College on September 14.

The Nittany Lions (3-4-1, 1-2 NEAC) got on the board with a  goal by Jon Mercier at the 8:02 mark of the first half and held that lead going into the intermission. Kyrollos Fekry responded with a goal in the 50th and 78th minutes to give the Wildcats (3-4, 2-1 NEAC) a 2-1 lead late in the second period. But the Nittany Lions were able to get the equalizer when Mercier fed a perfect pass through traffic and Dan Zhmurkin slipped past the keeper inside the far post at the 82:02 mark. Both teams had a shot on goal during the rest of regulation, but both shots were stopped by the keepers.

Rotman Saltos finished the game with two saves to earn his third win of the season. The Nittany Lions outshot Cazenovia by a 23-7 margin and held a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will return to action on Sunday, September 27 when they host Morrisville State College in a 12 p.m. NEAC contest.
