READING, PA - Michael Peguero scored a goal in the first half and added an assist in the second to lead the Penn State Berks men's soccer team to a 5-1 win over Penn College of Technology on Sunday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions improved to 8-7-1 overall and 6-4 in the conference. They currently sit tied with Cazenovia College with 18 points for the sixth and final playoff spot, but Berks owns the tiebreak after winning head-to-head over the Wildcats earlier in the season. The Nittany Lions could
Peguero, who was recognized with Senior Day honors prior to the game, sent a sent a strike into the left side of the goal on a cross by
Abdel Pierre to put the Nittany Lions ahead 3-0 with 42 seconds left before halftime. The final tally of the day came when
Jon Mercier headed home a cross from the end line by Peguero in the 73rd minute, giving Peguero a Senior Day to remember.
T.J. Yurkovic started off the scoring with a goal at 6:33 mark of the opening half, with Mercier adding the assist. Mercier headed in a goal in the 30th minute when
Joe Budnovitch sent a cross through the box.
The Nittany Lions got back on the scoreboard early in the second half when
Dan Zhmurkin sent a line drive into the far post with a perfect pass through traffic by
Omar Guzman at the 47:59 mark of the contest.
Rotman Saltos and
Kyle Baker each made one save in the game, while their counterpart Malcolm Kane finished with 13 stops.
Berks outshot PCT by a 35-9 margin (19-3 on goal) and held a 9-2 advantage on corner kicks.
