Men's soccer earns crucial conference win

READING, PA (October 21, 2015) - Marvens Labissiere tallied two goals in the second half and the Penn State Berks men's soccer team picked up a 4-1 victory over Wilson College on Wednesday evening to help their bid for a berth in the NEAC postseason.

The Nittany Lions improved to 7-7-1 overall and 5-4 in the conference. Berks' 15 points puts them tied with SUNY Polytechnic for the six and final playoff spot.

T.J. Yurkovic got the scoring started for the Nittany Lions with his fifth goal of the season in the 14th minute. Dan Zhmurkin sent a perfect cross that Yurkovic was able to send to the back of the net. Yurkovic nearly added another goal in the 40th minute, but the keeper made a diving save on. Fortunately the the deflection went right to Omar Guzman who took one touch and placed a shot into the wide open net for his team-leading 12th goal.

Labissierre recorded his first goal of the season after Zhmurkin again made a perfect pass in traffic for his second assist of the game at the 56:29 mark. Emmanuel Saie set up the final score with fancy dribbling at the end line and a cross to Labissierre in the middle of the box that he sent into the far corner.

Rotman Saltos made one save in 54 minutes of play, while Kyle Baker made four stops in relief.

Jacob Benford headed in a ball off a free kick by Ethan Russ for Wilson's lone goal.

Berks held a 24-8 edge on shots (17-6 on goal) and had a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks.

The Berks men's and women's team hosted their Pink Game fundraiser and were able to raise $184.00 in donations and through a kicking contest. The fundraiser also involves sales from Fall Pink Game T-shirts and with donations at the women's volleyball match on Friday afternoon. All proceedings will go to the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn College in the final home game of the regular season on Sunday, October 25 at 12 p.m. Michael Peguero will be recognized prior to the game with Senior Day honors.
