Baseball swept by Keuka

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. (May 3, 2014) - The Penn State Berks baseball team wasted a crucial opportunity to move into sole possession after dropping a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contests, 6-3 and 8-7, to Keuka College on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions are now tied for first place in the conference standings with Gallaudet University and the Storm, as all three have a record of 11-6. Penn State Abington, who swept Gallaudet on the road this afternoon is currently in the final playoff spot at fourth place. Abington can earn a trip to the conference tournament with a win over Gallaudet on Sunday, but a lose would give SUNY Institute of Technology the final spot. Berks can earn first place and the right to host with a win on Sunday and a Gallaudet loss. Keuka would host the tournament with a win and a Gallaudet loss. Gallaudet would earn the right to host with a win.

Berks led 3-0 in the first game before the Storm tallied a run in the fourth and plated five in the fifth inning.

Nick Zipay and Kyle Hartman each went 3-for-4 with a run scored to lead the offensive attack. Ryan Tantala was 2-for-4 with a double.

In the second game, Tom Grablewski was 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs scored, and a double. Keeanu Erb went 3-for-5 with a run scored, while Zipay, and Tantala each recorded two hits. Hartman drove in two runs and Troy Salerno added an RBI.

The teams will finish off the three-game series on Sunday, May 4 at 12 p.m.
