Men's basketball comes up short against SUNY Cobleskill



COBLESKILL, N.Y. (February 21, 2014) - The Penn State Berks men's basketball fell by a score of 70-64 to SUNY Cobleskill in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Friday evening at Iorio Gymnasium.

The teams went to halftime deadlocked at 35-all and the Nittany Lions hurried out to a six point lead to start the second half. The Fighting Tigers chipped away at the deficit and took the lead for good with 13:16 left in the game. The largest lead was six points down the stretch and Berks got as close as two points on two occasions. The loss puts the Nittany Lions tied with Wells College for the final playoff spot. The Nittany Lions will clinch a spot in the postseason with a Wells loss tomorrow afternoon.

Darren Major knocked down four 3-pointers and finished with a contest-high 27 points. This is the 11th time this season that Major has scored 20 or more points, raising his season average to 19.0 points per game. Tom Smith followed with 14 points, while Dameon Nixon added 12 and both pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Christian Burggraf recorded five assists and Nixon added four.

Cobleskill had four players reach double-figures, led by Brandon Smith with 19 on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor. Alexis Nunez had 16 points, six assists and three steals. Cortrell King (11) and Dane Brown (10) rounded out the Fighting Tigers in double digits. Mike Chapman pulled down a game-high 10 boards.

The Nittany Lions will conclude the regular-season with a game at SUNYIT on Saturday, February 21 at 12 p.m.
