Men’s basketball edged by SUNY Cobleskill



READING, PA (February 1, 2014) – The Penn State Berks men's basketball had its comeback bid come up short in a 63-57 setback to SUNY Cobleskill in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon at Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions suffered a slow start to the game and did not reach double figures until 3:54 left in the half. Fortunately, for Berks, they only trailed 25-15 at the break. The Fighting Tigers built a 14 point advantage midway through the second half, but Berks rallied and clutch 3 pointer by J.C. Keaton cut the deficit to four points with 6:20 to play. Cobleskill shot 16-for-20 at the foul line in the final five minutes to secure the win.

Darren Major had a team-high 17 points, 12 of which came in the second half. Christian Burggraf followed with 12 points, four steals, and three assists. Tom Smith and Joey Lewis each chipped in 10 points, while Smith added seven rebounds and three steals.

The Fighting Tigers received 16 points from Brandon Smith and Alexis Nunez. Smith pulled down a game-high 11 boards and recorded six blocked shots. Dane Brown picked up a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Nittany Lions will host Gallaudet University in a NEAC contest on Tuesday, February 4 at 6 p.m.
