Late surge pushes Delaware Valley past Berks



READING, PA (January 8, 2014) - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team led for the majority of game, but a barrage of 3-pointers and strong shooting at the foul line led Delaware Valley College to an 87-82 victory on Wednesday evening at Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions took a 38-34 lead into the halftime break and were ahead by as much as five points with 9:22 remaining in regulation. The teams exchanged a couple of baskets and then Jay Donovan tied the game with 6:27 left and did not stop there. The junior guard knocked down four consecutive 3-pointers for the Aggies that swung the game from a three point deficit to an eventual four point lead.

Tom Smith led all scorers with 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor. Darren Major followed with 20 points to raise his team-high average to 16.8 points per game. Dameon Nixon recorded 15 points and six assists, while Christian Burggraf chipped in 12 points. Joel Ellison added eigh points and tied Smith with a team-high nine rebounds.

Donovan and Nick Sullivan, who combined for nine 3-pointers, each recorded a team-high 22 points. Zach Sibel connected on three baskets from beyond the arc to finish with 10 points. Overall, the Aggies went 14-of-31 from long distance and were 23-for-33 at the foul line.

The Nittany Lions will host Lancaster Bible College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference contest on Saturday, January 11 at 1 p.m.
