Men’s basketball falls on the road to Abington



ABINGTON, PA (January 29, 2014) – The Penn State Berks men's basketball team suffered an 85-76 setback to Penn State Abington in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Wednesday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions led 34-27 with just under seven minutes remaining in the first half, but Abington went on a 12-2 run to take a three point lead into the break. Abington opened up the second half with 13-4 run to extend its advantage.

Darren Major led the Nittany Lions with 21 points, while Tom Smith followed with 17 points. Christian Burggraf connected on three 3-pointers and rounded out the Nittany Lions in double-figures with 11 points.

Nygel Belizaire, who made his first start of the season, had a team-high eight rebounds and added seven points. Joel Ellison chipped in six points and seven rebounds, while Dameon Nixon had six points and seven assists. Jake Kovach recorded five points and three rebounds.

Abington had four players reach double digits, including three with 20 or more. Nasiar Smith led all scorers with 22 points, followed by Mike Marvin with 21. Max Alton hit four 3-pointers on his way to 20 points. Avery Barnes chipped in 10 points and matched Marvin with a game-high 14 rebounds.

The Nittany Lions will host SUNYIT in a NEAC contest on Friday, January 31 at 6 p.m.
