Trio leads Nittany Lions to road win over Keuka

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. (January 17, 2014) - Darren Major, Christian Burggraf, and Dameon Nixon each recorded 20 or more points to help the Penn State Berks men's basketball team to a thrilling 78-74 win over Keuka College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Friday afternoon at Weed Gymnasium.

The Nittany Lions (3-8, 3-2 NEAC) went up by 12 points midway through the first half, before Keuka battled back to take a 38-37 lead into the halftime break. The Storm (4-8, 2-5 NEAC) led 50-45 early in the second half, before Major went on a scoring spree. The sophomore guard - who scored all of his 21 points in the second half – tallied 11 of the Nittany Lions next 13 points to put Berks ahead 57-51.

Keuka took its last lead of the game when they went ahead 61-60 with 8:22 left in regulation, but Joey Lewis gave Berks the lead with a jumper on the next possession. The Nittany Lions held a one-possession lead down the stretch until a pair of free throws by Major in the final second put them ahead by four.

Major and Burggraf tied for the game-high with 21 points. Burggraf registered 16 points in the first half en route to his career-high. He scored nine of the Nittany Lions first 11 points. After sitting out most of the first half due to foul trouble, Major shot 6-of-10 from the field and 8-for-10 at the line after the break.

Nixon finished the game with 20 points after going 6-of-12 from the field. More importantly, the sophomore guard fixed his troubles at the foul line by knocking down 6-of-7 at the stripe. Lewis came off the bench for a season-high eight points. Senior center Tom Smith had a team-high seven rebounds.

As a team, the Nittany Lions have struggled at the foul line in the past few games. The team converted on 20-of-26 trips to the line for a season-high 76.9% percentage. Keuka, on the other hand, shot 53.6% (15-for-28) at the free throw line.

Trevor Healey recorded 21 points and a game-high 12 boards, while Casey Williams added 13 points and 12 rebounds. Jared Wagner and Adam Starks each chipped 12 points for the Storm.

The Nittany Lions will face Wells College in a conference contest on Saturday, January 18 at 1 p.m
