Men's basketball drops conference tilt with Wells

AURORA, N.Y. (January 18, 2014) - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team had all five of its starters score in double figures, but it was not enough as Wells College defeated the Nittany Lions, 86-78, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (3-9, 3-3 NEAC) trailed 44-40 at intermission and a jumper by Tom Smith to start the second half cut the deficit to two. That is as close as Berks would get as the Express 5-9, 4-3 NEAC) used a 13-2 run to take control of the game.

Dameon Nixon recorded his second straight 20 point performance, which led all scorers. In the past two games, the sophomore guard has raised his scoring average to 13.7 points per game. Smith had 18 points, while picking up a team-high eight rebounds and seven assists. Christian Burggraf shot 5-of-7 from the field to finish with 13 points and he also had four steals. Joel Ellison chipped in 12 points, followed by Darren Major with 10.

The Express had 12 players contribute to their scoring, led by Al Paul with 15. J.J. Walton picked up 12 points, nine boards, and seven assists.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Lancaster Bible College for a NEAC contest of Wednesday, January 22 at 6 p.m.
