Women's tennis downs Wells College, 7-2

Box Score READING, PA (April 7, 2013) - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team continued its strong start to the conference schedule with a 7-2 win over visiting Wells College on Sunday afternoon at Gring's Mill Tennis Courts. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions (5-3, 2-0 NEAC) took a 2-1 lead in the doubles action. The No. 2 duo of Samantha Warga and Allison Monkman defeated Brittany Vanno and Taryn Heath by a score of 8-5, while Kristina Hatter and Taylor Keselica won 8-3 at third doubles. The top pair of Crystal Hitz and Elizabeth Kehm were narrowly edged out 8-6 by Caitlyn Copfer and Ayumi Takeuchi.

Hitz was able to avenge her doubles loss by taking Copfer down 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles flight. Kehm won her No. 2 singles match by a score of 6-1, 6-2, while Monkman picked up a 6-3, 6-2 victory at fourth singles. Hatter (6-2, 6-4) and Gloria Kim (6-2, 6-1) rounded out the Berks winners out of the No. 5 and 6 spots, respectively.

The Nittany Lions will continue conference play when they host Lancaster Bible College on Wednesday, April 10 at 3:30 p.m.
