Major leads Nittany Lions to win over Cazenovia

READING, PA (December 7, 2013) - Darren Major matched a career-high in scoring as the Penn State Berks men's basketball team defeated Cazenovia College, 82-69, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon at Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions improved to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference, while the Wildcats fell to 3-4 on the season and 1-3 in the NEAC. Berks jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the early going, but found themselves down 27-19 with 9:16 to go in the half. The Nittany Lions regrouped and went on a 14-4 run in the final five minutes to take a nine point lead into the intermission.

Major netted 16 of his 25 points in the first half. He finished the game 11-of-16 from the floor and 3-of-6 from long range. The sophomore guard has reached double-figures in every game this season and raised his season average to 16.3 points per game. Major matched his career-high of 25 points, which he recorded on February 13, 2013 at Penn State Harrisburg.

Christian Burggraf knocked down three 3-pointers and finished the game with 13 points, followed by Tom Smith with 11. Smith also had a team-high six rebounds. Dameon Nixon continued his stellar play with seven points, five boards, five assists, and three steals. Shavoy Murray had four points and a huge steal to help the Nittany Lions during their run to close out the first half.

Nate Hudson led the Wildcats with 13 points, followed by Brad LeFevre with 10.

The Nittany Lions will travel to DeSales University for a non-conference contest on Wednesday, December 11 at 7 p.m.
